Highgate Cemetery

My interest and affection for Victorian Gothic cemeteries is well documented by now, and last Sunday I had the chance to visit Highgate in North London. It really is the ultimate Gothic cemetery. I took most of these shots with a view to making them monochrome, but some worked best in colour.

Day 95

A different road out of town this evening, and I found an overgrown graveyard. As previously noted, I love these small, overgrown graveyards. This angel has seen better days, but the texture from the mould and decay is amazing, and whilst it looked great in black and white, I think it's better in colour.

Day 48

I've always loved graveyards, and in particular, protestant graveyards. They're always more elaborate, more ornate, more gothic. The graveyard in Enniskerry has quite a mix of old and new, but this angel stood out from quite a way off.

Day 24

Day off today, so I took the opportunity to drive out of Stepaside a different way and ended up at this little ruined church and graveyard. This is a view of the remaining gable viewed through two gravestones in the body of the church. I couldn't see the dates on either of them, but in a different part of the yard there was a gravestone dating for 1789.
