Day 305

I was a bit disappointed with my results today: I thought I'd nailed a couple of shots, but when I looked at them critically they weren't really at the races. I was pleased with this one though. I used a 4ND filter to allow a slower shutter speed in order to smooth out the water. I decided to change it to monochrome as I felt it worked better: the colour version still felt a little banal.

Day 295

A bit of a frustrating day today: I could see two locations that would probably have yielded great images, but I just couldn't reach them safely. Instead I made my way down a sufficiently precarious slope to take this shot of the river above Enniskerry. An ND filter allowed a 30" exposure at f22.

Day 165

One of my pet peeves, and I don't think I'm alone in this, is the incorrect use of the word "literally", so believe when I say that literally the second I pushed the shutter-release the lights on the Jeanie Johnston were turned off. So, I was forced to look east instead. Thankfully that view of the quays looks good at night, and the tide was nice and high which afforded some great reflections. I used a slow shutter speed which allowed me a narrower aperture as well as softening the reflections.

Day 54

An opportunity to duck out of work for an hour today, so I drove as far as Ballydavid pier. The sound from this river was amazing as it ran under the bridge and into the sea. After some clambouring and some leaping I ended up dopwn at these rapids. I tried some slow exposure, but nice and all as they looked, they did sterilise the scene somewhat. A fast shutter was more in keeping with the scene.

Day 23

After my unsuccessful trip to the Dodder last week I was inclined to try it again. This time I found a better vantage point, although it was a bit of a clamber down the bank to reach it. I still think there's a better shot to be had, but this was a huge improvement on my previous effort.
