Day 356

Last day in Dun Laoghaire for a while, so last chance to take pictures of rusty iron fixed to walls. It's all about the texture.

Day 352

I passed a scrapyard this evening, and although it was closed I did manage to get this shot before the hounds could be released. I took it in colour, but it really works better in monochrome, as there wasn't really any colour in it, and the flat light didn't help.

To be honest, this shot was affected quite heavily in post with some Lomo style plug-ins, but that was only because the sun was long gone by the time I left work.

Walking slowly and uncomfortably around Dun Laoghaire this evening when I saw this image. I think this is a defunct drinking fountain from Victorian times.

My first time cycling from town to Dun Laoghaire in a long time, and the first time I noticed this sculpture. Just the thing for the post-work blues!

Evening in Dun Laoghaire harbour. For a change I understated the saturation, and it gave the water a hue and shimmer that I really like.

Well, the temptation to wait and take my photo on the way home was great, but thankfully I found a window and found a window whilst it wasn't raining, which is just as well given how the weather turned later!

Late leaving work today, but thankfully there's a grand stretch in the evening, so I was able to take this view of Dun Laoghaire marine before I headed for home.

Day 323

Rain, sun, rain, sun, rain and sun, sun, more rain: it's been a frustrating day as far as weather was concerned. Luckily my free half hour coincided with some sunshine, so I was able to visit the boatyard in Dun Laoghaire.

Flushed with the success of yesterday I brought my 7D with the macro lens to work again, and it paid off. Distracted by a flash of colour out of the corner of my eye I ended up beside these primroses, growing out of a concrete block with absolutely no regard for the miserable weather we've had until recently.

Day 320

I brought my macro lens to work today, secure in the knowledge that Dun Laoghaire would reward me with something good. And I wasn't disappointed, but then again rusting chains appeal to me in a way they probably don't to other people. I like the texture in this shot, along with the colour, and funnily enough I was just talking about Isambard Kingdom Brunel earlier, so it seems more appropriate somehow.

Day 319

At the top of the stairs in the building I'm working in there is a small window, and on the rare occasions that the sun shines it sends a tight sharp beam of light down the stairs and in to the hall. It's a lot like Newgrange, only without the history and magic, and in Dun Laoghaire.

Day 314

A different route home, and I never noticed that there were two churches across the road from each other. One exposure for the sky, and another for the detail in the walls, and I blended them in post.

Day 313

As soon as I felt that the end was in sight, this project started to feel difficult. There's been difficult days all along, but today I was stuck in an office with some atrocious weather outside, and I despaired of what I would shoot. Just as I was preparing to leave work I noticed that the sky had gotten incredibly dark. I looked out the window, and what do you know: refraction to the rescue!

Day 300

It's been an eventful 300 days: lots of diversions, new ways home, laneways explored, and I've seen a lot more of the city and country than I'd expected. This evening was no different, as I came in to the city from Dun Laoghaire a different way, and I saw the Aviva from this side for the first time. I was very lucky too, as the sun came out in time to give me this image.

Day 299

I was determined that today's photo wouldn't be a landscape, and my intention to photograph something snow based was scuppered by the absence of snow. Luckily I saw, and was quite taken with, this sculpture in front of an office building.

Day 298

Another snowy day, and the day I found out how truly difficult it is to photograph snow well. As I made my way home, resigned to using an iPhone shot today, the sun started to come out from behind the snow clouds, and I went down Dun Laoghaire pier to get a shot of the sunset back over Sandymount. The day was saved.

Day 297

It was cold, so I put on my gloves as I left the office to take a few shots. It wasn't snowing though, so I didn't bring my jacket, and that was my undoing, because three minutes later the snow was pelting down as I was forced to retreat back to work.

To be honest, I just liked the light and the reflection of the screens in the bottle.

Day 268

Photographing the moon is difficult: you either get the exposure right for the moon, or you get the exposure right for the rest of the frame and the moon looks like the sun. The only solution I can see is to take it as a composite image, which is what I did here. One exposure for the moon, and one for the silhouette of the cow against Dun Laoghaire.
