Day 28

Today is all about the trip to Manchester to see the Stone Roses in Heaton Park tomorrow night, so to that end, today's photo is more functional that I would have hoped, but tomorrow's will hopefully make up for it!

Day 27

Today's conundrum: how to take a self-portrait when I hate having my photograph taken? The answer really is simple: hide behind the camera. I've always hidden behind the camera, so this was an easy ask. Now that this one is out of the way I've a tough task ahead for self-portrait 2.0

Day 26

Day off today, and after a few hours of garden work I was feeling quite agrarian, so I hopped the fence of the site behind the apartment and walked as far as the farm beyond. After negotiating another fence, and being brave about the big hole it left in my leg, I got to the wheat field. Very pleased about the result; sometimes you just gotta push the chroma.

Day 25

Walking home along the canal this evening and I stopped to take a few shots, and then unexpectedly found this image. It was at once totally incongruous and totally in keeping with its location. In honour of the upcoming Stone Roses gigs I am naming this image "Garage Flower"

Day 24

Day off today, so I took the opportunity to drive out of Stepaside a different way and ended up at this little ruined church and graveyard. This is a view of the remaining gable viewed through two gravestones in the body of the church. I couldn't see the dates on either of them, but in a different part of the yard there was a gravestone dating for 1789.

Day 23

After my unsuccessful trip to the Dodder last week I was inclined to try it again. This time I found a better vantage point, although it was a bit of a clamber down the bank to reach it. I still think there's a better shot to be had, but this was a huge improvement on my previous effort.

Day 22

A more productive day than yesterday, but nonetheless a portion of the day spent on the sofa. And it rained a lot, so staying indoors seemed appropriate. When I first started this blog I considered warning that the viewer should expect a lot of pictures of my cat, and here's the first. Like me she doesn't like having her picture taken, but unlike me she's very photogenic, and she rewards perseverance.

Day 21

Oh what a day, and it's only mid afternoon. Starting with the four hours sleep, rolling quickly into leaving my wife to the airport for the start of her month long trip away, it peaked with a drubbing for the Irish rugby team at the hands of New Zealand. A day in need of whimsy if ever there was one, and I was inspired when I saw this fellow on the shelf. He was a gift from two friends of mine, Aoife and Annie, a few years back, and to this day I'm unsure what about him made them think of me.........

(as a bonus feelgood factor, I actually planted that grass a few weeks back in an attempt to reclaim the wasteland beside my apartment. So far it's looking promising!)

Day 20

Tough day at the office today, but it being a Friday there was an unwind waiting at six o'clock. A pint in the Wellington is the best way to round out the working week.

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Day 19

It is really really wet again today, and as a result the light is flat, and the day is dull and moodless. Cycling home through the deluge I took the opportunity to investigate what lies beyond the tramway arch in Ranelagh. I had always thought it lead to a private garden, but in fact it's a public park, complete with fallen trees and discarded nappies. I chose to concentrate on the trees.

Day 18

First serious speed-wobble of the project today: a dull overcast evening as I was coming home, and somewhat devoid of inspiration. I took a few mediocre shots along the Dodder, and was resigned to a dull and flat image for today, when I was struck by a flash of colour at the traffic lights. Aughrim was saved!

Day 17

I've always had mixed feelings about the concrete 1960s water tower in UCD. On the one hand I love its Cold War Monolithic look; a little piece of the Communist East in Dublin 4. But, on the other hand, its lack of a reasonable symmetry upsets the OCD side of my brain. Today I chose to capture its Stalinist side.

Monday, 18 June 2012

Day 16

In a brief lull in the rain I went as far as Stepaside, and being a sucker for a good skyscape, I went in search of a good vantage point to take one. This is the view from Stepaside golf club.

Day 15

Today I went in search of texture in the rock face behind my apartment, but found colour as well, and elected to go with that instead. There's rich pickings in that rock, so I suspect I'll be back.

Day 14

It was Andy Irvine's 70th birthday, and the celebrations in Vicar Street were recorded for a TG4 special later in the year. As I'll be cutting it I was able to go along this evening, and I took some shots while I was there. I chose to shoot some B&W, and was very pleased with the results. This was taken during the soundcheck for Sweeney's Men.

Friday, 15 June 2012

Day 13

An incredible amount of rain has fallen in the last twenty four hours, and we've been experiencing some flooding and a minor mud-slide. These sandbags looked to me like they were taking a well-earned break from an exhausting job.

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Day 12

Another horrible evening, everyone rushing home through the rain to watch the match. Mind you, at three nil down to Spain we were better off in the deluge.

Wednesday, 13 June 2012

Day 11

On a day I had The Plains of Kildare by Paul Brady & Andy Irvine on a loop in my head, it seems appropriate that this lovely (lovely) horse is tonight's subject.

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

Day 10

I never noticed this gate before, or the garden that lay beyond it. An oasis on a busy road.

Day 9

Out shooting with National badminton champion and double olympian Scott Evans tonight, so I thought I'd try some slow shutter speed shots to see if I could get some interesting blurs. Pretty happy with the results! In this shot he's running drills with two opponents, and he's definitely winning.

Sunday, 10 June 2012

Day 8

A walk on the abandoned building site behind my apartment revealed this weed bravely pushing it's way through a puddle of broken glass.

Saturday, 9 June 2012

Day 7

Like an idiot I didn't bring my camera with me today, but with an iPhone you've always got a backup. I love this corner of Dublin.

Friday, 8 June 2012

Day 6

A day off today, so I went as far as Tower Records to hear Inni K play an instore to promote her new EP.

Thursday, 7 June 2012

Day 5

The rain is back with a vengeance. Ballyogan Luas stop can be surprisingly picturesque in a downpour.

Wednesday, 6 June 2012

Day 4

There really is only one possible pic today: the Olympic Flame on it's way through Dublin.

Tuesday, 5 June 2012

Day 3

Miserable day in Dublin, but I did find these neglected railings on Oakley Road which I quite liked.

Monday, 4 June 2012

Day 2

A beautiful day in Dublin today, and a lovely cycle home along the Grand Canal.

Sunday, 3 June 2012

Day 1

After all the rain in the last twenty four hours the underground carpark is pretty much underwater, much to the delight of this puddle.

Prologue

I bought myself a camera two years ago in an attempt to get back into photography, and for a while it worked, and I was happily snapping away, but inevitably the initiative stalled. In an attempt to degauss my creative coils I've set myself a challenge to start a blog and post a photo a day over the next year. I've been far too selective about what I photograph and when I do it, so this venture should contain more mundanity than I'd normally like, but that's all part of the process.
